Nowadays, the Ken Burns technique(Pan and Zoom effect) is widely used. Most video editing software provide pan and zoom effects, for example the windows movie maker, the flash slideshow maker or even powerpoint etc.

From above two flash demos, we can see what is Pan and Zoom effect and what it brings. However except the simply zooming in on subjects and panning from one subject to another, it can create illusion of movement thus give life to still photographs, highlight en elment to attract more attention, allow you more control over video motion etc.
